Lighthouse Challenge

We have been working together in small groups to complete this circuit building challenge.  We are using our knowledge of circuit building to create a working lighthouse.

Part 1

To start with we had to decide what would need to make our lighthouse work.  We used the circuit equipment to create a light with a switch.  Some of us even thought about trying to make the lamp rotate.
Our knowledge of circuits and problem solving skills were strong and we were able to complete this part of the task quite quickly.

Electricity

Circuit Building

On Tuesday afternoon we got the circuit building equipment out and had a go at building some working circuits.  We managed to make the light bulbs shine, motors spin and buzzers buzz!  We even managed to add some switches into our circuits to control the travel of electricity to each component.

We had great fun exploring the possibilities!

Some of the boys managed to find a few interesting uses for the motor.  If you look closely you will see the poor lego man spinning round and round and round! He'll be fairly dizzy after that experience I would imagine!!!  :0)

ELECTRICITY
Circuits

On Monday we looked at the components required to make up an electrical circuit.
We learnt about batteries, bulbs, motors, buzzers, switches and cables.

We looked at how these all connected together and how the power made each component act (light up, make a noise, spin)
We also looked at how to draw circuits using the correct symbols to represent each item.

On Tuesday, during our hall time, we made a human circuit to show what happens in a real electrical circuit.  We completed a circuit with a light bulb,

 a spinning motor,

and a burglar alarm!

Can you spot the switch in our circuit?
Can you spot the battery?
