Orkney Science Festival

 

Liz from Shell came to work with us as part of the Orkney Science Festival.

 

She was talking to us about energy, friction and forces.

 

To demonstrate these terms to us we made band rollers.  We had great fun doing it and were able to show our knowledge well. 

We worked in groups of 3 but each person made their own band roller.

 

To test them out we all changed 1 thing about our band roller in our small groups.

 

This was the first step in making the band roller.  We had to cut 3 pieces of wood to the correct size.

 

 The second stage was to create the wheels.  We added some designs to the wheels which would look good when spinning. 

 

  We attached the wheels to the wood with safety pins and then added the elastic band to help wind it up.

 

We had lots of fun testing the band rollers....over and over again! 

 

 

We compared our results and worked out which change (variable) was the best.
