Rotating and Orbiting
During hall time we were using our bodies to learn about the rotation and orbiting of planets around the sun.
We found out that when a planet rotates, this is called a 'day'.
Do you know how long it takes for Earth to rotate?
Answer: 24 hours
We also found out that the planets move around the sun. This takes a lot longer and is called its orbit.
1 orbit around the sun = 1 year.
Do you know how long it takes the Earth to orbit the sun?
Answer: 365 and a quarter days.
Watch us demonstrating how the planets rotate and orbit the sun.
Some of us just used our bodies while others included some PE equipment to demonstrate.
We discussed as a class why it took 365 and a quarter days for earth to orbit the sun. What happens to the quarter?
Kelsi very cleverly worked out that the quarters get stored up and turned into an extra day every 4 years. This is what we call a Leap Year. It has 366 days.
Did you know that?
It was really fun learning about roating and orbiting because i learned lots of diffrent things ang how long it takes all of the planets to orbit the sun
